Carrboro Farmers’ Market now accepting EBT cards

The Carrboro Farmers’ Market in Orange County will begin accepting EBT cards beginning May 1st.  This is a positive step forward during a time when households are increasingly struggling to put food on the table.  Read more about this new effort in the Independent Weekly and the Chapel Hill News.

Rite-Aid now accepting EBT cards

Rite-Aid is one of a growing number of retailers now accepting EBT cards.  Households participating in Food & Nutrition Services (formerly the Food Stamp Program) can use their EBT cards at Rite-Aid to purchase items such as milk, cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, and orange juice.  Click here to read the full article from marketwatch.com.

More and more families benefit from Food & Nutrition Services

Families who never thought they would need help putting food on the table are finding themselves applying for Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits (commonly known as food stamps).  The downturn in the economy has sent an increasing number of households to their local Department of Social Services (DSS) office to apply for benefits.  And, these families are thankful for the extra support.  To read the full article from the News & Observer, click here.
